The furniture in the dining
room of the Bradley House
was purchased from a Chicago
furniture manufacturer in
1925. It was intended for
use in the new management
dining room that was going
to be included in a large
addition to the main office
of Michigan Limestone and
Chemical Co., operators of
the quarry and processing
plant south of Rogers City.
Unfortunately, the building
was totally destroyed by
fire before the addition was
completed, so the furniture
was unneeded. Its history
from 1925 until 2005 is
obscure, but it was
apparently purchased at some
point by one of the
company's management
personnel, possibly George
Wing.
In 2005, the dining room
suite was discovered in the
First Street home of the
late Leo Greka, local tavern
owner, lumberman, and
entrepreneur,
when someone noticed that
there was a Michigan
Limestone logo on the
backsplash of the linen
press. The museum purchased
the furniture from Greka's
heirs.
